Pool Market, near Redruth, is throwing open its doors and offering local artists and craftspeople the opportunity showcase their talents in a brand new demonstration area that has been created for its thousands of visitors every Saturday and Sunday.

The markets customers will be able to see, at close hand, a variety of crafts such as wood carving, painting, pottery, jewellery making and decoupage.

And, with no costs involved to either the visitors or the craftspeople, it will provide a new platform from which excellence in Cornish arts and crafts can be promoted.

Ian Day, manager with Town and Country Markets, explained: “We know that our customers are really interested in this type of thing, so we have the perfect audience for talented individuals and groups to come along and promote their craft.”

“Although our county has a good share of tourists visiting, we need to do all we can to promote these traditional crafts. Our offer is a completely free and there’s absolutely no strings attached – we just want to showcase their creativity and skills to our customers.

“We’ll provide lighting and power for the demonstrations and if they want to sell their products, then we’ll be able to help them with renting a unit or make an introduction to one of the many different traders within the market hall.”
