Gurdev Singh - Luton Market, Gurdev Singh, of Bhaker Tropical Foods has traded on Luton Market since Town & Country took over the operation of the market from Luton Council.

Gurdev is a thoroughly professional trader, getting to the market at 7am every morning 6 days a week after his daily trip to London to pick up fresh stock.

The stall stocks all types of exotic tropical foods, from plantain to crushed chillies. If you want to try something new for tea this is certainly the stall to call at! With Gurdevs extensive knowledge of all his stock he is happy to help and advise on cooking and preparation.

When not collecting stock or working on the stall Gurdev is an avid Liverpool FC fan. We caught Gurdev early one morning to ask a few questions:

Q1.      How long have you been a market trader?
Ans.   I have been a market trader for 3 years and spent that time with T & C.

Q2.      What Attracted You To Become a Market Trader?
Ans.   Market trading is a fantastic way to start a new business without expensive start up costs. I also like to supply local people with what they want, as well as introducing other customers to new foods.

Q3.      What were you before you decided to become a market trader?
Ans.   I was a wholesale delivery driver of exotic foods – it just made sense for me to use my knowledge and set up my own business selling what I knew about to the public of Luton.
